The Essence of You

It struck me the other day that before you and I take on any other role in this life, we are first each unique individuals on a quest to understand ourselves and the world we live in. Despite our similarities we are each completely different and distinct. We need to know ourselves if we are to take our health seriously.

You need to know what food, rest, activity and inputs are best for you as an individual so that you can best enjoy life and those around you. We see it operating everywhere. The lady in the office who tries to eat like someone else. The guy in your complex who’s competing with his triathlon neighbour. The mom who drives herself crazy cooking different meals for everyone in the family. Even the kids on the playground who keep checking up on what the “other kids” are doing, versus enjoying their own game. When bird watchers go off on a birding conquest, they eagerly seek out different birds, identifying their calls, colours and nests. It’s a triumph to get all the birdies names ticked off in one day! Those birds live together, and yet they are deeply different and celebrated for being different.

Don’t compete with others or try to be like someone else. Discover and embrace the wonder of just being yourself!

Health Tips:

  • Make it your quest to learn how the four principles of well being uniquely apply to you: good nutrition, regular exercise, enough rest and healthy relationships.
  • Choose your own choices, or they’ll happen to you.
  • Bottom line: We are fearfully and wonderfully made. Live your own story!
